The Farm
Happy Kitchen Farm is rooted in the belief that our lives are better when we grow and cook our own food.
Our community is stronger when we gather for meals together.
At Happy Kitchen Farm, we grow culinary herbs, edible flowers, microgreens, and other specialty ingredients for home cooks and chefs. We’re a backyard microfarm in Tacoma, WA, zone 8b, with dreams to grow.
Owner and farmer, Michael Liang, created Happy Kitchen Farm to offer a wider variety of culinary ingredients in Tacoma. (Anyone who has flipped through a seed catalog realizes how much produce is not available at local grocery stores, where items are selected for transport durability, rather than flavor or variety). Herbs and similar ingredients are the focus because of their versatility and ability to transform a meal. Eyes light up when these ingredients activate the tastebuds, elevating even the most humble of meals.
Happy Kitchen Farm exists for the adventurous and curious eater, and because we’re introducing new ingredients to the market, we also provide educational material and cooking inspiration. We are part of a growing ecosystem of local farmers and producers and contribute to a more resilient and accessible food system.
2025 is year one for our farm business. We’re excited to take this leap into small-scale farming and bring new ingredients to the Tacoma area. We offer limited CSA subscriptions, monthly backyard farm tours, and produce for local chefs. We use organic practices and, with the help of our small flock of chickens, incorporate regenerative agriculture techniques. This year, starting with 1,200 sq feet of growing space, we’re testing the business model and building out the infrastructure for future growing seasons.
Our goal is to secure a multi-year farm lease by the end of 2025 (in time for a fall planting of next season’s garlic) and scale-up in 2026 to offer our produce to more community members and across additional market channels. Join our newsletter if you’d like to follow our farm progress and reach out if you’re interested in supporting us other ways.
Thank you, and happy eating!
